The book "Victore or , who died and made you boss"is a "must have" for every designer. It has a witty and funny approach to postmodern design. I enjoyed the presentation and meeting Victore. Carlos Llerena Aguirre, who like Victore taught at the School of Visual Arts was the official i-phone photographer. Thanks!

UM Design Students visit Dodd Communications

Thanks to the Staff at Dodd Communications for a hands-on learning experience. The mini-printing seminar was conducted by Lilli Rivera.
We discussed print production; how to prepare the files, how to create a printing request form, different techniques and tips for a successful printing job from beginning to end. We visited the tech department where the files are checked; the proofing dpt. where the iris and other proofs are produced (depending on the client); the presses where the job is printed!; the cutting and binding departments; and the shipping and fulfillment. Step on the bus for a day-long exploration of Miami's most cutting-edge studios. Get a behind-the-scenes look at the design industry, meet professionals in the field as well as future colleagues and learn more about what it means to lead a life in design.

We are planning to visit as many as 3 studios. Keep an eye out, as we will be updating the website with studios as they are confirmed.

Tour date is set to take place November 20th from 9am-4pm. We hope to see you there.

All tickets include transportation to design studios, lunch, tour bags, and some prize giveaways! If you're not a member, this is a great time to become a member and enjoy in this wonderful event.

Muriel Sommers principal of M. Sommers & Associates, a media consulting group that specializes in publishing of magazines, newspapers and special publications. Among the most well recognized publications and clients are: South Florida Business Journal, South Florida Business Journal Book of Lists, South Florida Magazine, Florida Home & Garden, Florida Trend, Miami Business, WorldCity Business, Casa & Estilo Internacional Magazine, Synovate and World Trade Center Miami.

Ms. Sommers was named Executive Director of the International Advertising Association/Florida Chapter in January 1999 and in January 2002, was named Director of Chapter Services for the International Advertising Association Worldwide. In 2003, Ms. Sommers was chosen to participate as a judge for the American Marketing Association EFFIE Awards.

Jamie Tao is an art director at Alma DDB, an advertising agency in Coral Gables. Jamie's main account is State Farm. She has also worked on McDonalds and Cricket (a cell phone company). tv, print and online. Produce a national McDonalds' commercial and it's playing nationally. I also just won "Best of Show" in the print category at the Addys this year. On the side, I write for an art blog (doodlersanonymous.com ). I think your students might enjoy the site. Have them check it out if they like illustration.
