Circle Design

ART291
Jacqueline Gion
[30 designs derived from the circle]

The circle is an ancient and universal symbol that holds a variety of meanings and connotations. Unity, wholeness and infinity are among the most common. It is a shape often considered sacred and divine. Rooted in the beginning of time - seen in the sun, the moon, and the planets as well as the eye or pupil. I particularly found the spiritual energy and cosmic unity associated with this symbol inspiring.

Hexagon Design

30 Designs with the Hexagon shape
The hexagon has six sides, if we tie it in with the number 6  it means communication, balance, unity, and interfacing. Each side has the same length, which means equality. The balance comes from the opposites, each opposite has the same length and direction.
The hexagon can also be seen in nature, is used in the beehives. This means efficiency, community, natural. Its found in the honeycomb and it can be associated with the cooperativeness of the bees and their hardworking nature.

Triquetra

The Triquetra is derived from the Latin word Triquetrus meaning Three Cornered. It is a symbol of things that are threefold, such as Mother, Daughter, Grandmother; Past, Present, Future; Land, Sea, Sky; Holy Trinity. It is commonly found in Celtic Art and sometimes used by Wiccans to symbolize the triple goddess. It often has a circle in or around it.

Spade Design

Craig Shervin - Art 291
30 geometric constructions using only spades. The word 'spade' is of Greek origins, meaning 'sword.' It was a symbol of war and battle, and was worn on the shields of Europe's greatest warriors. Later, the symbol was adapted to represent nobility or power. During World War II, some American soldiers wore the spade on their helmets to represent their ability and prowess as a military force, and it was rumored that some soldiers dropped the playing card, the Ace of Spades, on the enemies they killed.

I manipulated the triangle to create 30 designs.
The triangle, although always a strong sing, can mean many different things (sometimes depending upon its direction); sexuality, unusual creativity or talent, the holy trinity, and danger.

Polygon Designs

30 designs using a hexagon
A hexagon is a polygon that has 6 sides. Six stands for harmony, balance, sincerity, love, and truth. It also represents enlightenment; "lighting" ones path in ways that needs spiritual and mental balance. The hexagon is a geometric shape that occurs in nature. This shape is found in honeycombs and associated with bees and their cooperation and hard work.

30 Combinations of Infinity

Annika Jensen - ART 291
The lemniscate means infinity, immortality, the future and "the endless nature of energy". In Buddhist culture, it symbolizes long life. In Egyptian times, it stood for the "city of eight" where souls would go after death to join the gods.

Rhombus Design

30 Designs using a Rhombus
The word rhombus is derived from the Greek word rhombos, meaning something that spins. The term "solid rhombus" symbolizes two right circular cones sharing a common base. The shape was first used in playing cards in the 15th century in France. The Suit of Diamonds indicates financial matters, relationships, and struggles. It is also associated with wealth, riches, and materialistic aspects of life.
